To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Mixing & Filling Operator opportunity, you will have:
  • 1-3 years of related experience in a production environment, ideally working with chemicals  
  • Experience in a lab environment preferred; optical or inspection experience is helpful
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent  
  • Ability to detect obvious defects
  • Ability to produce quality work at standard required quantities or above
  • Ability to understand and follow both verbal and written standard operating procedures in English
  • Basic knowledge and ability to use a computer
  • Basic math skills including precision of measurements
  • Mechanical background or skill to use tools to put the mixer together
  • An unwavering commitment to safety and following all safety requirements, including maintaining a clean work area
  • Good hand-eye coordination with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to thrive and excel in a diverse, multicultural environment
When performing the duties of your role, you will be required to:
  • Wear protective eyewear and a respirator, and may be required to wear protective gloves, aprons, smocks and boots. 
  • Occasionally be exposed to hot and/or cold conditions, solvents and chemical fumes
  • Frequently sit, stand and use hands or fingers to handle material
  • Occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
You will be required to wear PPE, including a respirator, and must be able to respond to an emergency alarm. Being able to pass respirator testing is required.

Typically, Mixing works a Monday-Friday day shift from 7 AM to the end of daily production, but you will need the flexibility to work any hours scheduled between 6 AM and 6 PM. Additionally, you'll work approximately 3 hours every other Saturday morning to disassemble the mixing equipment.

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will join the Manufacturing department and be responsible for performing the mixing and injection operation in lens production. The mixing and filling process must be completed with precision and exactness from the mixing stage, which takes 3 hours, to filling, ensuring the monomer is degassed so as not to create a bubble or leak. You will work independently at a fairly fast pace -- the mixing must be complete within 4 hours to as not to destroy the mix -- standing and moving, regularly and lifting up to 50 pounds (putting the monomer in the dolly). You'll leverage our tracking system to follow the product and be responsible for critical paperwork daily. 

More specifically, your essential functions will include:
  • Mixing all different types of monomer per the mixing procedure and recipe in the preparation for the injection process
  • Injecting monomer into mold assemblies as outlined in the company standard operating procedures
  • Following the priority order guidelines
  • Maintaining tracking accuracy
  • Inspecting assemblies for injection and film defects
Additional responsibilities will include:
  • Following the standard operating procedure for:
    • Loading cure ovens and vats
    • Cleaning injection equipment
    • Pre-gel time
    • Cleaning injection equipment
  • Ensuring a safe working environment by following all safety requirements while mixing and filling and specifically on the 1.67 process
  • Maintaining accurate production reports as required
  • Wearing a respirator 75% of the time (during mixing and filling)
You may also be required to perform other production tasks relating to the lens manufacturing processes.
